A Warm Place with Open Doors
St Mary Magdalene is a small friendly church located in the beautiful English city of Norwich. We would love to welcome you to our Sunday services at 9.30am, when we celebrate the Eucharist, and afterwards have refreshments in the hall. The service includes music, a sermon, and prayers. There’s no reserved seating or formal etiquette in church so please do sit where you like. After the service there is always time to catch up with friends.
Our daily 30-minute Morning Prayer service is at 9.00am (not usually on Tuesdays), and we have Eucharist at 10.00am every Wednesday.
St Mary Magdalene belongs to the Church of England Diocese of Norwich and is part of the Sprowston and North Norwich Team Ministry.

According the Norfolk Record Office, "The church of St Mary Magdalene in Silver Road was built in 1903 as a district church in the parish of St James with Pockthorpe; the separate ecclesiastical parish of St Mary Magdalene was created by Order in Council in 1909. St Mary Magdalene was a district chaplaincy of St James the Great with Pockthorpe from 1903 to 1909, when it became a separate ecclesiastical parish. In 1972 the church of St James was declared redundant and the two benefices were united."

Our church was built in 1904 and so has limitations in its facilities for disabled people or those with push chairs.
Parking
The church has a dedicated car park.
Church entrances
The main entrance into the church consists of two steps with handrails. There is a separate entrance to the left of the main entrance door which is suitable for wheelchair and pushchair access. There is a bell on the right side that can be rung for assistance with doors if needed. The entrances to the church and the hall are both well lit. The paths around the church are more difficult to navigate in the dark.
A wheelchair is available just in side the church, stored behind the organ.
Inside the church
The main body of the church can be accessed by wheelchairs via the hall entrance to the left of the main door. Once you have proceeded through this there is a door that allows easy access to the church.
Seating areas in the nave consist of comfortable modern chairs which can be easily removed immediately, which means wheelchair users should be able to choose a convenient position. There are seats available with arms. Positions and chairs for those accompanying a wheel chair user can be reserved by request
The church is fitted with an induction-loop system for the benefit of hearing-aid users. The public address system is used at all services.
The weekly notices (pew sheet) and readings are both available on our website.
At various times during the service the minister may invite the congregation to stand; you are welcome to remain seated if this is more comfortable for you. The Eucharist is served at the front of church and is accessible by wheelchair users. Alternatively you may choose to receive communion in your chosen seating area, can you please make your wishes clear to someone if you find this useful.
The leadership team and congregational members address the congregation from a raised platform, which is only accessible by steps (no handrail is available, although the wall can be used as a support on one side) and therefore is not suitable for wheelchair users.
There is a hand microphone for use by those unable to use the microphones fixed on stands at the front of the church.
The church hall and meeting room
After the morning service we invite everyone to join us for Coffee in the church hall.
The hall is reached by returning to the entrance corridor, and turning right. This entrance to the hall is the fire escape for wheelchair users.
The kitchen serving hatch has a counter height of 900mm. Sunday morning refreshments are served from the hatch, but can also be brought out to the tables. Hot drinks are served in cups but mugs are also available on request.
Our meeting room can be accessed through the church or by means of external door. There are no accessibility issues.
Toilets
There are modern toilet facilities available off the entrance hall corridor. A wheelchair accessible unisex toilet is also available. Transfer in the toilet is to the right from a wheelchair. There is also an emergency cord in the accessible toilet.
The female toilet is equipped with a baby-change area.
